Understanding the Warranty on your Above Ground Pool and Pool Parts

Above Ground Pools March 26, 2021

Understanding the warranty on an above ground pool can be complicated, but when an issue arises, it is important to know which parts of your pool are covered and what steps to take first to get you back in your pool. In this blog we’ll share what to expect from manufacturer warranties, what issues they cover, how long they are ‘generally’ good for and how our team manages warranties to make it as easy as possible for our customers to get swimming again quickly.

The first thing to know is that each element of your pool has its own individual manufacturer’s warranty. And for all of these parts, it’s helpful to think about manufacturers’ warranties like the engine warranty on a vehicle. The warranty covers manufacturer defects, but it does NOT cover user neglect, accidents or errors. The pool kit, pump and sand filter, pool liner and ladder are all warrantied separately and cover different manufacturer defects, not wear and tear.

Pool Kit Warranty

Our pool kits come with a 30-year pro-rated lifetime warranty. Pool kits consist of the outside skeleton of the pool – the frame, pool walls and posts that give the pool its shape. Very few customers ever experience a manufacturer defect with their pool kit. However, it’s important to note that an issue like rust on the pool wall is due to a problem in the liner or general maintenance of the pool kit and would not be covered under the warranty.

Pump and Sand Filter Warranty

Your above ground pool pump and sand filter comes with a 1-year warranty. That may surprise some homeowners when compared to the 30-year warranty on the pool kit; however, in our decades of experience we’ve learned that any manufacturer defect on the pump and sand filter will likely present itself in a much shorter timeframe. Often within 60 days of first use.

One of the top problems pool owners see with the pump and sand filter comes from improperly running their pump on an extension cord. Your pump must be plugged directly into a 110-volt outlet. Trying to avoid the cost of adding an outlet and running your system on an extension cord will guarantee burnout and certainly cost you more in the long run. Damage to your system resulting from running it on an extension cord is not covered and will void your warranty.

Pool Liner Warranty

Above Ground Pool Liner Warranty

A 15-year prorated manufacturer warranty is the standard with the purchase of a pool liner from our store. The large vinyl pool liner is placed into the pool kit and is what keeps the water in the pool! So, it’s no surprise that this is one of the most common calls we receive from homeowners. Liners typically have one seam running down the middle of the liner. On the occasion that there is a manufacturer issue with the seam, you may see your water levels decreasing due to a slow leak, or potentially quicker, depending on how large the seam rip is.

With a liner issue, our team comes to your home, drains the pool and inspects the entire liner, including the seam, for issues. Often on trips to customers’ homes, our techs find that the pool liner has encountered something sharp from swimmers – think a pocket knife or a dog claw – which has slashed the liner somewhere other than the seam, and created a dramatic leak. In these instances, a manufacturer warranty is voided, though our experts can quickly patch a tear or slash. The good news is that a liner repair done by our experts will be watertight, hold for the life of the pool and get your family back in the water quickly!

Pool Ladder Warranty

We rarely see any issues with pool ladders; however, homeowners should know that all ladders come with a 1-year manufacturer warranty. The warranty protects you against any issues that may arise with regular, proper use of your pool ladder in that first year.

Hopefully this has been helpful in knowing what to expect from your pool and pool part warranty!

At Country Leisure, we evaluate and handle all warranty claims in the store and that really simplifies things for the homeowner. With our team, you won’t have to wait for the manufacturer to evaluate your issue and send a replacement. We have relationships with our manufacturers that allow us to complete your repairs or replacements up front, meaning you’re swimming while we file the warranty paperwork for you and get reimbursed from the manufacturer.
